Change your air filter regularly

Check your filter every month, especially during heavy use months (winter and summer). If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it. At a minimum, change the filter every 3 months. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool – wasting energy. A clean filter will also prevent dust and dirt from building up in the system – leading to expensive maintenance and/or early system failure.

Tune up your HVAC equipment yearly

Just as a tune-up for your car can improve your gas mileage, a yearly tune-up of your heating and cooling system can improve efficiency and comfort. Learn more; see our Comfort Club page to see what we do to maintain your system. Maintain your Equipment: A Checklist

Install a programmable thermostat

A programmable thermostat is ideal for people who are away from home during set periods of time throughout the week. Did you know that properly using a programmable thermostat in your home is one of the easiest ways you can save energy, money, and help fight global warming?

Seal your heating and cooling ducts

Ducts move air to-and-from a forced air furnace, central air conditioner, or heat pump and are often big energy wasters. Sealing and insulating ducts can improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling system by as much as 20 percent – and sometimes much more.

Technologies you need to know about!

Variable Speed Blowers, Multi Capacity, systems, Two Stage Gas Operation, SEER ratings and zoning options. These are items you should completely understand before choosing a system.

How efficient could my new system be?

This decision should be based on 2 things, how long do you plan on being in the house, and your budget. The higher the efficiency of the equipment the more it costs, however the higher the efficiency the faster the payback or return on your investment will happen. If moving to a higher efficiency rating will not create a return on your investment we usually will not recommend spending more money, unless we are dealing with specific comfort issue that only the higher efficiency units will address.

The importance of a quality installation!

The biggest difference you will see from company to company!

Will the company you choose be using drop cloths, booties on their feet, hardwood and carpet runners etc. How neat is their work? Will all of the connections be air tight? Did they explain duct sealing? Do they have the proper tools? Ask them if they use a micron gauges and the proper hoses when evacuating the refrigeration system. And do they do a combustion analyses on gas heating equipment

How long is the workmanship warranty Airflow Service Company believes if the workmanship is of the highest standard it should be covered for LIFE! In short be very comfortable with who you choose. Routine Maintenance

Over the years we have found that most home owners routinely change their filters and that´s about it. Some have even upgraded to a pleated style filter from Home Depot or Lowe´s These filters still however allow the finer dust particles to accumulate on critical components affecting the efficiency and the capabilities of your equipment. How many home owners who go inside their systems to clean the indoor coil, blower wheel, and motors? Not to mention checking electrical amp draws, refrigerant levels, outdoor coil condition/cleanliness, condensate lines and traps, condensate pump operation/cleanliness, electric back up heat strips and furnace burner condition/cleanliness.

How often should routine maintenance be performed?

Due to changing seasons and so many items that need to be checked according to the weather conditions, the air conditioning portion of your system should be serviced in the spring. The heating portion of your system should be serviced in the fall. The right answer is 2 times per year or every 6 months.

With utility rates on the rise along with everything else, should we give them anything extra? All of the Items above and a few more technical aspects of your air conditioning and heating system should be maintained periodically! Saving you $$´s now and in the future. Routine maintenance is the key to making your system last its full life, run as efficient as it can and maintain the most comfort it is able to provide for you.

One misconception we hear a lot is, my system is only _______ years old so I don´t need it done. Everyone needs to realize again, it´s just like your new or old car! If you choose not to change the oil according to the required maintenance schedule, will they give you a new engine when it fails? With this said routine maintenance is important whether you have a new system or old!
